Sunshine Blogger Award

Laurie, from Let the Light In Reflections, has nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. I’ve only been blogging for about 3 months, I really wasn’t sure what to expect from blogging, but in this short time I’ve had the pleasure of meeting people from different parts of the world that are passionate about writing. Write on! I look forward to reading your posts everyday 🙂 Laurie, thank you for nominating me for this award! Your posts are lovely, inspirational, and full of honesty. I applaud your bravery on writing about uncomfortable topics, but those are the precise conversations we should be having to help us move in the right direction.

Thank you for reaching out and giving me the “me too” response I was looking for when I decided to start blogging (read my About Me page).

  1. Thank the person that nominated you.
  2. Answer the questions from your nominator.
  3. Nominate fellow bloggers you follow.
  4. Give them 10 questions to answer.

  1. What is your favorite place that you’ve traveled so far?
    • Charleston, SC. My finance and I went to Hilton Head for a Christmas/birthday trip 2 years ago, and visited Charleston several times because we found it absolute beautiful and relaxing. We visited the Magnolia Plantation it was so relaxing and the change in scenery was much needed. I loved the silence, I loved driving in the town and seeing the houses with gas lamps outside the door, the pavement was different (beautiful), and the smell of wood burning in the fireplace was intoxicating. I can’t wait till we take another family trip that way.
  1. Have you ever been scuba diving?  If not, would you try it?
    • I have never been scuba diving and I probably won’t try it. I enjoy going out on the boat with friends, but prefer to have my feet on the ground instead of diving into unknown territory. I’m too scared, I think it’s a beautiful experience and my fiance would love for me to join him, but I would be panicked the entire time waiting for Jaws to sneak up on me and have me for a snack. LOL!
  2. What is your least favorite food?
    • Steakhouse places. I can enjoy a nice steak from time to time, but it’s not really my thing. When my fiance, who LOVES steaks, suggests we go to a local steakhouse or BBQ a steak, I will either go for the ribs or just get chicken. My mouth doesn’t water up at the thought of steak, and even if I get a tender cut I find the meat to be chewy. There’s only so much I can take before I move on to dessert.
  3. Socks and sandals, fashion crime or completely acceptable?
    • Funny fashion crime! I giggle when I see people out in public with socks and sandals, my daughter does it at home all the time when I tell her she needs shoes to go outside, but quite honestly, I don’t really care.
  4. What’s the craziest experience you’ve had to date?
    • We were returning to our hotel in the mountains at Fox Run (December 2015) around 2 AM, our phone signal was out, and the navigation instructed us to go down a dark, unpaved road. It started raining, and as we got further on this unpaved, isolated road, we saw a man just walking along the way in the middle of the rain wearing a butcher’s apron and a helmet. The houses were MILES apart, I was panicked as we got closer to him, I swore this was the type of trap horror movies are made of. Everyone laughed at me, although later they admitted it was pretty darn scary. Talk about adrenaline rush!!
  5. Favorite childhood memory?
    • Any memory involving my grandmother. She was an amazing soul, I wish I had the wisdom back then to embrace our relationship more, ask her more about life, and journal her advice. If I had to pick one, it would be the time we went out to have lunch and she realized she didn’t bring enough cash to cover the bill. We were laughing the entire time, trying to empty out the car of whatever loose change we had to cover the bill and the tip. We had to call my mom and aunt, the sergeants as we called them, to bring us cash LOL. So funny!
  6. You get your bill at a restaurant and realize they’ve forgot something on it, what do you do?
    • This has happened many times, and I’m not always as honest about it, sometimes I’ll take it as a little gift from God if I was at a tight spot $ (I know, it’s wrong, I’ll make sure to go confession this Sunday!). I AM honest about receiving more change, I would hate for someone to be short when they balance their register at night because I walked away with more money.
  7. What’s your biggest fear?
    • Failing my family. I have a high expectation for influencing their lives in a positive manner, leading them to God as best I can, and using my past suffering to become a good role model and steer them in the right direction. I’m hoping that studying the Word of God, reading books, and educating myself on common marital/family-life struggles will better prepare me for the obstacles we will face along the journey of life. I’m hoping I can be a good wife, mother, and stepmother. God willing, as we blend our family no one ever feels any less, unloved, or as if they don’t belong. My past experience with my then dreadful stepmother (now I can see her differently, but no less of a horror while growing up) has made me extra sensitive to how children feel in these type of situations.
  8. How many (and which) languages do you know? Fluent, partial or learning?
    • English (fluent), Spanish (fluent), Italian (reading – need to practice speaking for the honeymoon >.<).
  9. Which place do you absolutely HAVE TO visit before you die? (Try to pick somewhere you haven’t already been)
    • I’d prefer NOT to pick a specific place, because life is about the moments, the daily sharing with loved ones, and not just one EPIC trip. However, I will follow the rules and play along.
    • Europe – which is where we are headed for our honeymoon. I am EXTREMELY excited and feel blessed because we got news that we will be blessed by the Pope during our honeymoon, I need to wear my wedding dress for this event. It’s an absolute HONOR and an experience of a lifetime. Originally attending a Papal mass was on my bucket list, but this just took it to the next level. The amount of gratitude my heart is filled with is beyond what words can describe.

I nominate the following blogs – I look forward to your responses if you choose to participate :-).

  1. Congrats on the award. I could just imagine how funny it would have been when you and your grandma realised you were short of cash. I probably would have freaked out.😀😀. Thanks so much for nominating me.

    1. You’re welcome 🙂 Every time I drive by the place I laugh at the memory! This happened about 20 years ago, before debit cards existed, so she would leave the house with cash. Somehow she thought she took more. My grandmother rarely ordered appetizers, salad, or soup. Of course, that’s the day we ordered all of the above, and dessert!! HA! 🙂
